I just know you are eagerly waiting another pot hole story....not. But i found this interesting and i drive these potholes i mean roads every day.
the radio is where i heard about the pot hole brigade. A story appeared in this week's Roodepoort Record newspaper titled "Pohole campaing gets momentum".
And only a few facts.
Number of potholes filled this past month in Gauteng province: 52,331. Gauteng is just smaller than the state of NJ. The pothole brigade filled 1,924 potholes, not a mere 900.
My aim is to focus on the culture of South Africa. I want to share my observations as a transplanted Kansan. I will try to be 'politically correct', but honest. Informative, but interesting. Of course, as a wife and mother I will tell about my family, especially my kids. As a missionary I will comment on our evangelism and church planting.

Praise God for his new children
On the 13th, two more people were baptized at Faith Baptist Church, Snake Park, Soweto. Both J and S are young. S received a Challenge newspaper during 2nd Saturday in Soweto in January. She'd been searching and was not so happy with the answers she has received. But now she knows The Answer, and was baptized in obedience. She is eager, attending a discipleship class and often the first person to come to church on Sunday. Pray for her mom, M to see the changes and also come to know Christ.

two birthdays
Our kids had their birthdays this past week. 18 and 14. Unbelievable. For a few days it was birthday and brownies to school, birthday and birthday party, family outing, party at school. Ben then wanted to know if it was the dog's birthday. I don't think so. But i have included a pix of the dog with a birthday hat on. She refused to have it on her head so it is on her back.

Distributing The Good News paper
At least once a month and sometimes more, our team and members of churches in the suburbs and Soweto pass out The Challenge newspapers. This newspaper tells stories of how Christ has changed lives. The back sports sports. The newspapers published by an Australian group in conjunction with a local organization, Multi-Ministries.
We give out something free, have a reason to be in the neighborhood, visit with people about God and get names of those interested in learning more.
This Saturday after distribution in zone 10, Dobsonville, there were soccer matches with the 'young ones' from our team, Philani and over 60 neighborhood boys. A Bible story is part of the process.
Pray for the boys who heard a Bible story. Pray for those who expressed interest and will receive a follow-up visit. Pray as people read the stories, they realize this could be them, as God is waiting. (Our phone numbers are on the back of the Challenge.)

road repair?
Johannesburg Roads has a pothole hot line. They own a new machine that uses a new procedure and can fill up to 900 potholes a month.
However on this road section I posted a picture of before in Soweto, repairers took a different approach. Instead of repairing the potholes, the remaining concrete was scraped up, across and off the road. A side effect of this procedure was the potholes were, at least temporarily, filled.
